: ABOUT US

curating matters is the collaborative identity of Yang Li and Jingwen Weng under which we deliver podcasts, publication and exhibitions on contemporary art, curatorial practice, and the wide cultural industry. We are based in London and China. Since launching our podcast in July 2021 we have published weekly podcasts among different platforms. We record our learning process in a casual, accessible and imaginative style that has been embodied criticism. We reflect on the culture around us through the lens of who we are, with our multicultural background voice, and we also focus on demanding artistic quality and consciousness in current practitioners and art institutions.

In 2022, we launched our first exhibition Street on the Walk. The idea was based on the unawareness motions in our daily life. The artworks by six Asian artists on display here reflect on the motion of walking through everyday practice involving different media. They reveal existence in the relationship and interaction of between, around, and among people rather than the presence of an object or subject. The second exhibition Bon Voyage! features 9 artists and 22 multimedia works. It explores the subjects of artists, among them the self-identity, the uncertainty, the changed social relationships and imagined future. In our exhibitions, we aspire to see how the daily life practice circulates the connection between the exhibition venue and beyond the limitations of the gallery space.

Beyond podcasts and exhibitions, we are working on a semi-annual publication alongside our exhibitions, and published the first issue curating matters in April 2022. We want to use curating matters as a platform and build up a connection between people with different cultural backgrounds. We hope to explore the value of alternative archiving methods by deconstructing the traditional expression with documenting, writing and ‘white cube’ display. We want to expand as curators whilst also forming an accessible multi-media practice for our further projects.
